ҹѰ Research Event

The ҹѰ Research Event (WRE) is an annual interdisciplinary academic conference organised by our students to showcase the diversity of student-led research in College.

What is the WRE?

The ҹѰ Research Event is a showcase for the research being carried out by our students on a daily basis. From across the sciences, social sciences, and arts, they share their hypotheses, findings and conclusions to a diverse audience comprising other students, fellows, staff and visitors.

The two-day event takes place every May with podium and poster presentations. Participants are challenged with communicating their research to a generic, academic audience.

To support them in developing these skills, they are invited to attend a series of workshops before the conference.

Look out for the call for abstracts for WRE 2025.

WRE COmmittee 2022

Our Team

A distinctive feature of the WRE is that it is oragnised by a student-led committee. Elected in October, they organise the submission of abstracts, anonymous peer-review, workshops and rehearsals, as well as promoting and organising the two-day event.

It is an excellent opportunity for students to develop academic and transferable skills in event planning and organisation, assisted by College staff to make the day run smoothly.

Get involved

The WRE couldn't be a success without the presentations from our student community. We support you throughout the process and enjoy celebrating together at the WRE Dinner!

Submitting an abstract

We ask all students who would like to present at the WRE to submit in abstract in Michaelmas term. We get lots of applicants and so this helps us decide who should deliver a podium presentation and who should present a poster; you can express a preference when you submit your abstract. It is a chance for you to demonstrate your ability to communicate your research to a non-specialist audience.

The call for abstracts has not yet opened for WRE 2025.

Abstract Writing Workshop

To support you in submitting an abstract, we host an Abstract Writing Workshop. This provides guidance, tips, and best practice for crafting a compelling abstract - tailored to the WRE. If you missed the workshop for 2024, you can catch up byWe hope you will find it useful whether you are a seasoned researcher or a first-time presenter.

Presentation Workshops

We hold two further workshops to support our presenters, once abstracts have been accepted: one on public speaking and making impactful slides, and another on creating striking and effective posters.
